Privacy Policy
What I collect, why I collect it, and what happens to it — in plain language, because you shouldn’t need a lawyer to read a privacy policy.

The short version
I collect as little as I can. Your name and email if you write to me or join the list, plus whatever you choose to tell me about your books. I don’t sell your information, I don’t run advertising trackers, and the only recurring email I send is the one you asked for.
Who’s responsible
Knepper Design Write is Justin Knepper, working as a sole proprietor. If you have a question, a request, or a complaint about anything on this page, email justin@knepperdesignwrite.com — it comes straight to me.
Under UK and EU data protection law, that makes me the “data controller” for the information described here.
What I collect
When you send a message. The contact form asks for your name and email, which are required, and your genre, your publishing stage, and a message, which are optional. Framer, who host this site, process the submission and pass it to me.
When you join the email list. Your name and email, nothing else. MailerLite stores the list and sends the emails.
When you book a fit call. The scheduler on the contact page is Google’s appointment booking tool, embedded directly in the page rather than linked. When you book, the details you enter go to Google and into my calendar. Because it’s embedded, your browser connects to Google as soon as the contact page loads, whether or not you book.
When you simply read the site. Framer records aggregate visit statistics — pages viewed, country, referring site. It doesn’t use cookies and I can’t identify you from it. Framer’s servers also keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Nothing on this site asks for a card number, a postal address, or a phone number. If you become a client, we’ll handle payment elsewhere, and I’ll tell you exactly where.
Cookies
This site sets one cookie. MailerLite uses it to remember that you’ve already seen the newsletter pop-up, so it doesn’t reappear on every page. It doesn’t identify you and it isn’t used for advertising.
There’s no cookie banner. That’s a deliberate choice for a single, low-impact cookie rather than an oversight — and it’s only fair to tell you it’s there. You can block or clear it in your browser settings at any time and nothing on the site will break.
The embedded Google scheduler may set its own cookies when the contact page loads. Those are Google’s, governed by Google’s privacy policy, not mine.
Why I’m allowed to hold it
If you’re in the UK or the EU, the law asks me to name a legal basis for each use:
Your consent, for the email list. You opted in, and you can opt out whenever you like.
Taking steps toward a contract, when you send an enquiry or book a call. Responding is the entire point of you contacting me.
Legitimate interests, for keeping the site secure and understanding roughly how it’s used. I’ve weighed that against your privacy and kept the data minimal.
Who else sees it
Three companies, each doing one job:
Framer hosts this site and processes contact form submissions.
MailerLite stores the email list and sends the newsletter.
Google provides the appointment scheduler and my calendar.
All three are based in the United States, so your information is transferred to and stored there. Each maintains its own safeguards for international transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where they are required.
That is the complete list. I don’t sell your personal information, I don’t share it with advertisers, and I don’t hand it to anyone else unless the law requires me to.
How long I keep it
Messages and enquiries: while we might still reasonably be in conversation, and up to two years after we last spoke.
Email list: until you unsubscribe, which removes you.
Client records: for the life of the project, and afterwards where I need them for tax or legal reasons.
Analytics: for as long as Framer retains them. They’re aggregate and not tied to you.
Ask me to delete something sooner and I will, unless I’m legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can email me and ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. I’ll reply within 30 days and I won’t charge you for it.
UK and EU. You also have the right to object to processing, to ask me to restrict it, to receive your data in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. If you think I’ve handled your information badly you can complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office or Ireland’s Data Protection Commission — though I’d rather you gave me the chance to put it right first.
Canada. You can access and correct your information, and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
United States. If your state gives you rights over your personal information, email me and I’ll honor them. I don’t sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
The only recurring email I send is the one you signed up for: word when a guide is ready, and occasional new articles. No sales sequences. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and it works immediately.
Children
This site is for adults running author businesses. I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent me something, email me and I’ll delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS, my accounts use strong authentication, and I’m the only person with access. No system is perfectly secure and I won’t pretend otherwise — but I’ve kept the amount of information I hold small enough that there isn’t much to lose.
Changes
If any of this changes, I’ll update this page and change the date at the top. If something material changes about the email list, I’ll say so in an email.
